Research Luxembourg team players return with fourth season of “Women [& Girls] in Science” video series in collaboration with the Ministry for Gender Equality and Diversity (MEGA) and the Ministry of Research and Higher Education (MESR). For the first time, the initiative will feature a Mentoring Pilot Programme, connecting series participants with female master’s students from the University of Luxembourg who are interested in pursuing their studies with a PhD.

With a shared commitment to highlighting the diverse journeys of women in science across Luxembourg and inspiring young girls to pursue their scientific ambitions, the Research Luxembourg institutions have come together once again for the fourth season of the video series “Women & Girls in Science”. This initiative is carried out in collaboration with MEGA (the Ministry for Gender Equality and Diversity) and MESR (the Ministry of Research and Higher Education).

The campaign will kick off on February 11, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, with a teaser video introducing the six women highlighted in the series. It will conclude during the week of March 8, International Women’s Day, with the launch of the Mentoring Pilot Programme.

Be brave – Women & Girls in Science 2025

Choosing the path of science and research can have many trajectories. To showcase the variety of paths available, the fourth season of the “Women [& Girls] in Science” series highlights six women, each representing different institutions, scientific disciplines, backgrounds, and roles. From PhD candidate and research scientists to research support manager, their stories reflect the wide range of career opportunities within Luxembourg’s scientific landscape.

Each video offers a compelling glimpse into their personal and professional journeys, shedding light on the decisions they have made, the motivations behind their paths, and the messages they hope to inspire in young girls passionate about science.

Launched in 2022, the series has already completed three successful seasons, reaching over 850,000 viewers and receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback on social media. This initiative continues to celebrate the achievements and stories of women scientists in Luxembourg, aiming to inspire and empower women and girls in research, challenge stereotypes, and foster a more inclusive and diverse scientific community. It serves as a reminder that science is a field open to everyone.

A Mentoring Pilot Programme

In parallel to the video series, the Women [& Girls] in Science Mentoring Programme will be launched for the first time. It aims to facilitate links between women researchers and female master students at the University of Luxembourg. This initiative encourages aspiring women to pursue research careers by providing them with mentors and role models, thus helping to bridge the gender gap in research fields, especially in STEM.

The programme will run in collaboration with the ADVANCE mentoring programme of the University of Luxembourg. Students will be paired with mentors from similar research fields and meet from March to June to discuss research careers and work on individual objectives. Meetings include lab visits, discussions, and a final wrap-up, with participants encouraged to share their progress via social media.

Three Successful Seasons

The “Women [& Girls] in Science” video series, launched in 2022, aims to inspire and empower girls by showcasing the achievements and personal journeys of diverse women scientists in Luxembourg. With three editions released so far, the series has garnered over 850,000 views and received numerous positive comments on social media. Each edition features six videos and one trailer, highlighting the stories of these remarkable women. The campaign’s goal is to break barriers, defy stereotypes, and promote inclusivity in science and research, celebrating the message that science is open to everyone.
