SciLux podcast – Sahar Niknam, Jean Botev and Argiro Vatakis on the ChronoPilot project
02 July 2024
Can We Change Our Time Perception?
Many factors can influence the way we feel the passage of time. Listen to Prof. Argiro Vatakis, Dr Jean Botev and Sahar Niknam – the researchers who are developing VR/AR solutions to change our time perception.
Prof. Argiro Vatakis is an experimental psychologist, and assistant professor for the Psychology Department at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, and a member of the Embodied Language Processing Group at the Cognitive Systems Research Institute in Athens, Greece and director of the Multisensory and Temporal Processing Laboratory (MultiTimeLab).
Dr Jean Botev is a senior researcher at the Department of Computer Science (DCS) of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) at the University of Luxembourg. His research interests include complex networks, self-organization, mediated reality and collaborative socio-technical systems, focusing particularly on the way social and technical systems interrelate to develop novel context-aware and immersive applications. Dr Botev leads the laboratory for virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR Lab).
Sahar Niknam is a doctoral researcher at the University of Luxembourg. From robotics engineering and philosophy of science in Iran to cognitive science in Germany, the PhD student built her research focus around AI and VR.
Together, the 3 researchers are working on the ChronoPilot project – an EU-funded project that seeks to find out how humans perceive time – and how that perception can be modified.
Listen to Prof. Vatakis, Dr Botev and S. Niknam to learn more about the ChronoPilot project focusing on harnessing the plasticity of human time perception to enhance performance, decision-making, and well-being. ChronoPilot aims to alter subjective time experience in real-time by using Extended Reality technologies that engage vision, audition, and haptics.
