Trust, Populism, and the Future of Democracy

Trust is crucial for the functioning of states and markets. Its erosion can impact voters behaviour and economic decisions. Prof. Massimo Morelli explores the rise of populism and its implications for economic policies.

Professor Massimo Morelli is a Senior Research Scientist at the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER). His research covers a wide range of topics including game theory, mechanism design, political economy, institutions of governance, development economics, behavioural and public economics, comparative politics and international relations.

Massimo Morelli is also a Fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory and the Econometric Society; and a Research Fellow at a number of leading institutions, including the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), the Innocenzo Gasparini Institute for Economic Research (IGIER) and the Baffi Carefin Centre.

He is Director of the PERICLES Unit at Bocconi University and Chair of the Minorities in Economics (MinE) Committee of the European Economic Association.
