Research X industry project to improve decarbonisation strategy
02 February 2022
Decarbonisation.
The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology, a member of Research Luxembourg, and Kronospan, a world’s leading manufacturer of wood-based panel, are working on a decarbonisation strategy.
The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and Kronospan Luxembourg S.A. (Kronospan) signed a five-year Partnership Framework Agreement.
The partnership, which is based on sustainability and the environment, will involve research and development as well as PhD collaborative training activities in the field of wood-based panel production.
Advancing the decarbonisation strategy of Kronospan
With this partnership, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology is to advance the decarbonisation strategy of Kronospan. The agreement covers areas such as sustainability assessments using environmental and social life cycle analysis (LCA), monitoring and control of air emissions, water and forest management, optimisation of material flows and waste reduction.
One of the first projects is to monitor and study ways to improve Kronospan’s decarbonisation strategy by analysing the environmental impact of the Sanem site. To this end, both the research institute and the manufacturer will assess the sustainability of products, and to a larger extent the entire industrial value chain.
The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology is a centre of excellence in environmental sustainability, and we are happy to support the Luxembourg economy and in particular Kronospan, in its ambition towards reducing its environmental footprint while providing positive contributions to society, using science-based life cycle assessments.
