Dataspace4Health: facilitating secure health data exchange

Dataspace4Health is a collaboration between the IT services and consulting provider NTT DATA, Hôpitaux Robert Schuman, the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), the University of Luxembourg, the “Agence eSanté”, and the Luxembourg National Data Service (LNDS). The project aims to create a secure health dataspace for researchers by offering Gaia-X compliant services, while preserving data ownership and privacy.

Dataspace4Health is based on the EU Strategy for Data and the Gaia-X initiative for federated and secure data infrastructure. The project will address business, legal, and technical questions and contributes to the digital transformation of the healthcare sector in Luxembourg and Europe.

NIUM: understanding the microbiome, metabolism, and health

NIUM is a spin-off of the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) at the University of Luxembourg. It was created in 2019 with the mission of bringing digital personalised nutrition to the consumer’s world. NIUM develops personalised nutrition solutions to enable a better understanding of metabolism and health. Its services include bioinformatics and modeling to analyse clinical or experimental data for nutrition, building evidence with experimental models, as well as personalised nutrition for clinical application.

In June 2024, the University of Luxembourg and NIUM reinforced their relationship by signing a second license agreement, through which NIUM will further develop and use MicroGut technology. This in vitro gut-on-a-chip device conceived at University’s LCSB emulates the human gastrointestinal tract on a chip, for testing the impact of food products and ingredients on microbiome and metabolism.

ITTM: managing data in the life sciences market

ITTM (Information Technology for Translational Medicine) was founded in 2015 and is a spin-off from the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB). The company specialises in preclinical, clinical and real-world data management in the lifesciences and healthcare market. Its primary goal is to enhance data quality and accessibility, enabling federated or distributed data analysis.

Catalpa Ventures and LIH to drive innovation in healthtech 

In February 2024, the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) and Catalpa Ventures entered into a five-year collaborative agreement, marking a milestone in Luxembourg’s evolving HealthTech sector. This collaboration, emphasising knowledge transfer and marketable healthcare solutions, underscores Luxembourg’s commitment to cultivate an environment where research seamlessly transitions into tangible healthcare solutions, contributing to positive change in the healthcare landscape.
