Following the yearly trend, Luxembourg registered the highest R&D allocations which corresponds to roughly €661.6 per person.

According to Eurostat, in 2022, Luxembourg had the highest R&D allocations in the EU with €661.6 per person in 2022, this marks a slight decrease of €17.4 per person from the high of €689 reached in 2021.

Luxembourg’s high R&D allocations in health and industrial production and technology

Luxembourg’s high score is made up of several other R&D allocation metrics, of which two stand out.

For the metric pertaining to allocations for R&D in Health, Luxembourg had Europe’s highest score of €127.1 per person.

For the metric pertaining to allocations for R&D in industrial production and technology, Luxembourg was in the top four, reaching €63.8 per person. While Belgium lead with €126.6, this followed with Finland (€77.5) and Germany /€76.1). All scored more than double the EU average which is €27.2.
