Luxembourg Gender Working Group
To address gender inequalities in research in Luxembourg on a national scale, the Ministry of Research and Higher Education mandated the creation of a concrete action plan to counter inequalities in the context of gender diversity. Although many individual efforts were ongoing in the different research institutions within Luxembourg over decades, 2020 marked the year in which the Luxembourg Gender Working Group (GWG) was inaugurated as a trans-institutional working group, bringing together the expertise from various gender experts, staff delegation representatives and researchers from the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER), the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), the University of Luxembourg (UL), and the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR).
The Gender Working Group action plan for the institutions within the Luxembourg public research sector and national research funding agency will propose the following four main initiatives:
- The collection, monitoring, and publication of gender-disaggregated data to discern and track potential inequalities over time;
- The set-up, distribution, analysis, and publication of feedback surveys that measure effects of gender inequalities and perceptions by employees within institutions;
- A fair recruitment process that guarantees an inclusive working environment across all research domains and administrative positions;
- A fair internal promotion process that guarantees inclusiveness across all institutes and includes fair general working conditions.
